Late-season flowers and hanging baskets during a warm, dry fall in Pennsylvania
Hi GPODers !
We ’re back in Carla Zambelli Mudry ’s garden in Malvern , Pennsylvania ! Yesterday we saw the unbelievable pin foliage backdrop that surrounds her garden and a taste of some of the blush still place on a show ( check that out Part 1 here , if you missed it ) . Today , we ’re back to see more fall flowers as well as some festive container . Here ’s a speedy refresher on Carla ’s observation of November in her garden :
Unbelievably , it is November and it ’s over 60 ° . It has been a very nerve-racking fall gardening season because we ’ve been in a drouth . We are under a burn proscription for the county I dwell in Pennsylvania through the end of this calendar month , and I would n’t be surprised if they extended it .

The drouth is really accentuate my shrub and trees . I believe I ’ve lost some deciduous azalea , but I ’m not trusted . I wo n’t be intimate about the tree damage until the spring . As we adapt to climate change , I hope our gardens will do so as well happy Thanksgiving to everyone out there atFine horticulture .
The warm weather Carla is experiencing this fall is giving her a extended show of roses . Even tardily into the time of year , a huge pink rose is get down to unfurl .
A recondite pink form still has a cluster of gloriously vibrant efflorescence .

Carla mentioned that she thinks she might have lost some azaleas because of the dry condition , but this autumn - flower variety looks to be fighting through .
Carla allow me know that this is a ‘ Magnifica ’ azalea ( Rhododendronmucronatum‘Magnifica ’ , Zones 6–9 ) . This shrub , as well as one with purple flowers , were bought as tiny plants from a nursery that acquire them from cuttings straight from a gardener atWinterthur Gardensin Winterthur , Delaware . The variety show is one of the most predominately featuredazaleas amongst a huge collectionthat were distribute by the owner of the estate and father of the museum , Henry Francis du Pont . ‘ Magnifica ’ first prime in May , but will give sporadic flowered shows throughout summertime and declination .
Ahardy begonia(Begonia grandissubsp.evansiana , Zones 6–9 ) also seems to be holding up to its namesake . Despite prefer dampish soil , it look like it ’s handing this dry spell with some lovely , delicate blooms .

Carla is also able-bodied to keep the edible garden depart with some beautiful container , including a radical of hanging baskets . This first spilling with oregano and some flowering rosemary .
A second hanging basket has more rosemary , some palmy thyme , and some variegatedEnglish ivy(Hederahelix‘Variegata ’ , Zones 4–10 ) add some extra decoration . grow English ivy in a hang basket is a expectant way to enjoy the leafage plant life without care about its invasiveness .
The last matching basket in this trifecta , with thyme , oregano , and another dash of English ivy .

Long with all those fragrant herbs , Carla has lovely bunches of dinero in magnanimous container . A small , bright orange pumpkin add a decent pop of colouration .
Lastly , a group of unique pumpkin vine is the perfect fall decor . Two miscellanea of snowy pumpkin allow the lacing - like ‘ One Too Many ’ autumn pumpkin and peel ‘ powerhouse ’ pumpkin to really pop .
