Bee and let bee with fuzzy wuzzy caterpillars

As a kid , I played with these “ fuzzy wuzzies ” like brainsick . So now , even when they ’re chomp a few plants , I leave alone them alone .

This one is a saltmarsh caterpillar ( one of the wooly bears ) that pupate into a livid moth . The 1 with red stripes are a different genus and turn into the giant leopard moth .

Bees unite the party on the bedraggled ‘ Butterpat ’ mama . ( I ’ll get around to deadheading this weekend to carry the blooming and tidy things up ) .

A mallet I ’ve always called the spotted cucumber beetle get along in for a bite , too . If it ’s not that beetle , it ’s another that ’s up to no good .

A rough-cut mistake is blasting “ some kind of ” insecticide whenever anyone shows up , without knowing if it ’s the right-hand discourse . Many common products , even organic , would n’t bother my muzzy wuzzy at all , but would terminate the bee ’s life history . Maybe or maybe not they ’d kill the beetle . I just left everyone alone to exercise it out .

An important divine revelation to me as a new gardener was read to read label . Now , I know a small bit more , so I REALLY read labels . We can be enticed by the intelligence “ organic ” and “ natural ” . Indeed , they may be utterly natural , but will naturally kill a raft of beneficials in your garden .

The only pesticide I use now is Bt when caterpillars are chomp my mountain laurel wreath to twig . Or spinosad bait and orange oil drenches when the fire ants are out of control .   Otherwise , if something really “ glitch ” me , I apply the best organic treatment : my hands or my foot . Even then , I ’m conservative , because “ good bug ” can fool away you when they ’re in their larval stage by looking like something malevolent . I ’ve hear more stories of constituent gardener squashing lady bug larvae .

Since this is a metre of class we step back and meditate on our triumphs , calamity , and lessons find out the past 11 months , this calendar week on CTG , we do something a small different . Instead of our usual data format , we bring together Tom , Trisha , Daphne and John in a roundtable conversation for a fortune to get to know them better .

Hear how they got started in gardening , their latest revelation , and why organic horticulture channelize them . We give thanks Vicki , along with other viewers , who expect us to do this particular section .
