Amaryllis ‘ Sweet Lillian’January is becoming meddling . I ’ve been trying to catch up with posting , since last calendar week was my birthday ( 50 ! ) , and I had to deliver a keynote speech in Florida , we had two snowstorms , I change four flight in two days , had the furnace relegate down double , and then there is work … and , of course , a new President which I spent celebrate by watching the inaugural address on the back hindquarters TV of a Jetblue planing machine for five hour . awe-inspiring .
The Amaryllis carry on to flower , with these two newer cultivar of the “ Cybister - case ’ , those with spidery mannequin which are much nicer , I think , than the showier standard Dutch forms which we are so familiar with . The first , ‘ Rosado ’ has such a dark center , that it is difficult to capture it ’s lushness on covert . Believe me when I say that there should be a lipstick color named this . We have received so much new C ( 13 inches in two twenty-four hours ) that when the sun came out on Saturday , the greenhouse literally shriek with joy ) or from unthaw water ice on the glass ) which made the Amaryllis at heart , glow so brightly .
The second novel cultivar is called ‘ Lillian ’ , and it is strikingly gorgeous , it look more like a Crinum than an Amaryllis , and it ’s colors are complex and even more interesting when viewed at a close distance .

Short military post this week , since the tub is run , and I need to bundle for another trip tomorrow . Hopefully , I will catch up this weekend , but for now , this will have to do . At least be insure that I am not scourge time , I am interfering on - agate line say novel plants from the many catalogs that have arrived , specially Plant Delights Nursery . Maybe that is what I will share later – my inclination .
Some pottery I made , ready to provoke
It ’s a snowy weekend , snow in and miss two flight , so I determine to fire up the kiln so I can make more pots . These are pretty poor looking , but I thought that I should at least open fire them so that I can fire the nicer ace that I contrive this wintertime . Joe was at the National Pigeon show , ( observe the plumage ! ) so he stack away some of the California pigeons in the studio which is wood heated , because of the cold temp alfresco for a few days . It was so frigid , that we lost one of the ducks , the contraband one identify Jack . RIP Jack . I ’m certain there will be more , egg pose season will start before long with the Indian Runners .

Last image – some of the Primula malacoides seed which I brought back from Japan last year is commence to blossom . Early , and since the home is insensate , they are pocket-size , but soon there will be more . By next week , the Lord’s Day will begin to feel warmer in the Greenhouse , and by Feb. 14 , I can really feel the difference . For now , we are suffering an surprisingly frigid winter , with this weekend bringing below zero ( F ) temperatures again . So far , the glasshouse furnace is plugging on ……
