Last week I post a television where I was project mulch around the Grocery Row Gardens .

I titled it “ WHY ARE YOU USING WOOD CHIPS ? ? ? HAVE YOU join THE cultus ? ? ? ”

I sleep together it sound crazy to call a horticulture method a “ rage , ” and I did use the title glossa - in - nerve ; however , the no - till masses sure get close to being cultish . Rather like vegan , fare to think of it .

During the premiere , EcoCentric Homesteadcommented :

“ Using woodchips is not a fad . Most humans are followers . They postulate someone to give them direction . When a magnetic person do along s / he will always get a pursuit . ”

To which I responded :

“ It ’s a joke , EcoCentric Homestead . When I have bare ground , the mulchers go after me . ”

multitude gross out out about till now , because deep mulch and no - till are the current flavor du jour .

This too will pass .

EcoCentric Homestead further post :

“ I clear yours was a jocularity . Mine was n’t . It ’s garbled , IMO , for someone to go look for the same resources their preferred YouTuber has instead of using the resources they have . ”

This is a salutary spot . You should habituate what you have uncommitted to you . Up North , you might use lucerne hay . In the South , peanut hay might be well . Down here gardener use “ gin trash ” on their gardens , which is the leftovers after the cotton harvest . import snare trash to Canada would make no common sense . There you would use something else .

If you discover something on YouTube , it may or may not work for you . Try , experimentation , seek knowledge and GO AND DO ! Does till work for you ? lift beds ? Deep mulch ? flap with it . But know this : what works for Charles Dowding may not work for David The Good , and what work for David The Good may not work for Paul Wheaton . We have different talent , different experience , different clime , different crops , different metre constraints , different resources , etc .

It makes sentience to get back to the basic principle now and again and look at our main focal point .

Is your main focus growing food ? Then concentrate on growing the most you could .

Do you have a secondary goal of growing nutrient dense food ? I do , and I add mineral consequently .

Are you also attempting to establish up the grime on your homestead to leave a generational legacy ? Then project for that .

I am not , as I am just lease . Making amazing , awesome , incredible soil through massive amounts of undertaking , biochar , chop - and - drop , etc . , is n’t really in the cards for me . I ’m take a crap decent dirt through what I ’m doing , but my primary finish is to reap a harvest . The owners of this ground do n’t wish much about the grunge . Before we were here it was patchy grass and weed with lots of scrubbing oak tree and pine . It will return to that after we leave . In the interim , we are develop what we can and making the soil better , but planting a slap-up abundant food for thought woodland and doing lots of clearing and burning and soil improvement and adding clay and hugelkultur , etc . , just does n’t make sensory faculty .

I am not going to make a massive no - money box garden , either . Single words garden crop great for us . Our small no - till Grocery Row Gardens also ferment great . Throwing down a thousand tons of wood chip just is n’t in the cards .

But there is a tendency to cultishness in the human tone . We do want to follow something .

So , in conclusion , corrupt my book onGrocery Row Gardeningand travel along that .
