Sculptures, plants, and lots of hostas make a beautiful space
Today we ’re in Ann Arbor , Michigan , with Sharon and Michael Darga .
When we prompt into our home in 1982 , the backyard was overgrown with scrub andpoison ivy . Through year of heavy oeuvre , we steadily clear and planted , gradually expanding each year . The constantly evolving garden has now moved into “ any place that we can discover ” to plant . The garden focuses on a variety of ferns , epimediums , hostas , ornamental tree , and shrubs . We have over 200 varieties ofhostasand have collected all of theHosta of the Yearvarieties from 1996 to the present .
The front of the sign of the zodiac has been fulfil with a mixture of conifer , which includePinusstrobus‘Squiggles ’ ( Zones 3–8 ) , concolor fir(Abiesconcolor , zone 3–7 ) , and ‘ Golden Spreader ’ Caucasian fir(Abies nordmanniana‘Golden Spreader ’ , Zones 4–6 ) .

lead into the backyard is a potpourri of hostas ( includingHosta‘Royal Wedding ’ and ‘ Sum and Substance ’ , Zones 3–8 ) and a river of rocks collected on various trips .
A mulch path winds through the yard . As you walk , you will see various sculpture , hostas ( here you see the mixed bag ‘ Guardian Angel’),Japanese maples(Acer palmatum , Zones 5–9 ) , and pots for colouration throughout the summer .
A tall modeled Japanese maple(Acerpalmatum‘Ryusen ’ , Zones 5–9 ) , a pagoda , and a weeping aristocratical Colorado spruce(Piceapungens , Zones 2–7 ) play up this area .

Another sculpture ( this one bid “ Story Teller ” ) and a variety of fern adorn this section , along with Nipponese woods grass(Hakonechloamacra , Zones 5–9 ) . An annual pot is added for height and background interest . Himalayan maidenhair fern(Adiantumvenustum , zone 4–8 ) provide a softground cover .
A sculptural bunny girl on the rightfield ( named Chauncy ) highlight the back , with more genus Hosta and a bench for taking it all in .
