Q : What were your clients ’ objective lens ?

A : hide the puddle equipment was the top item on the tilt . Since this area was near the side steps into their home plate ’s kitchen , there was n’t a need for a icebox or other appliances . The goal was for Dad to have an area for broiling and buffet space for his two teenage girls to posture at or serve themselves snack counter - expressive style .
Q : What are the kitchen ’s chief features ?
A : A grill with ample tabulator blank space and a deep sinkhole to double up as an ice thorax or a place to stage cut flowers .

Lighting creates a magical environs . Amber minilights were woven along the existing but newly espaliered bougainvillea , and subtle uplighting of the two European olive tree standards added a silvery glow . Photo by : ( c ) Laura Morton Design , 2010.SEE MORE pic OF THIS GARDEN
Q : Where is the kitchen localize within the context of the garden ?
A : The kitchen is along the driveway and the dining patio is in front of the service department doors ( this structure is now an office ) . The eternal rest of the driveway was turned into a kitchen garden with moveable planters hold in comestible like alpine strawberry , basil and arugula . Fruit trees ( including a Meyer lemon tree and braided plum tree ) line the private road ; a shallow saloon ledge that cap the backsplash burden features small , glazed batch filled with succulents ; and the puddle area is separated by an archway ofPodocarpus henkeliitrees .

Q : How did you parcel out with the desex pond equipment ?
A : The equipment was an eyesore , especially because the star sign windows alongside the drive looked out onto this area . I created a multifunctional anatomical structure that “ floats ” around the pool equipment , then created some conformation and volume to soften the boxiness of it . It ’s completely open on the behind and the front has two door . A especial “ toque ” was built by a carpenter to sneak the filter and an old wrought - branding iron grillwork was used to " cage " the fastball .
The rest of the driveway was turned into a kitchen garden with moveable planter containing edibles and fruit trees that line the private road . The blue pots balance the blue fence and the colored concrete paving was score by hand and antiqued to add an artisanal tone . Q : Were there any additional component that you customized or retrofitted to work for this outdoor kitchen design ?
A : The sump and counters were poured into stead with colored concrete that coordinated with the new driveway paving , and gave the space a warm , terra cotta and artisanal touch , which helped integrate the declamatory surface field into a functional , attractive feature . I also contribute electric electric receptacle to use for appliances .
Q : Were there any other furnishing / décor used to complete the space ?
I chose nice ironware for the various knob and handle that enter the service areas to give it an “ always been there ” appearance . We used dismount to supply ambiance to the blank space , include romantic minilights that illume the side of the house . The customs duty board was also scaled for the space and has two removable half - moonshine end that add length . The bench bring home the bacon more seating than chair would .
