Most of the true laurel trees in my neighborhood have been wiped out by Laurel Wilt disease over the last few eld .
Here ’s one in the heart of succumbing :
And here ’s one that ’s bit the junk :

I ’ve also seen multiple avocado trees bump out by this blight . It is n’t cool .
Growing avocado pear used to be easy provided it did n’t get too cold-blooded . No longer .
In the last few years we ’ve pick up major problem with citrus tree ( greening ) , avocados ( laurel wilt ) and end up with a tight and edacious fruit - tree run through mallet ( Sri Lankan Weevil ) as well .

I would love to cast blame somewhere , but the only affair I can really blame is outside trade rather than local product .
And honestly , I do n’t desire to go without Colombian coffee berry , so I ca n’t throw off inculpation as I ’d like …
Anyhow , avocado pear are no longer a good choice for your K . They tend to hit hit by beetles as they near maturity and really get into bearing historic period , say around 6 old age or so . Younger Tree are generally less affected .

No matter how severely we work at our gardening , there ’s always something raw right around the recess that want to destroy what we build . Just another validation that this world is n’t promised land .
My two cents on fighting back :
set extra trees in casing something happens to one or two of them . Plant a blanket variety of crop . Do n’t do monocultures . Start trees from source and plant them everywhere . Keep an heart on everything . And do n’t numerate on any one affair as a sure thing .
Going for a permaculture coming spend a penny a fortune of sense . If you ’re look for a place to originate , I extremely recommend Toby Hemenway ’s bookGaia ’s Garden . Buy a copy and train to be inspired .
salutary luck keeping things live . Savor that guacamole when you may get it .
