This week I saw and ate a fruit I ’d never see of before .

They were spread out about the hobo camp flooring beneath the canopy of multiple towering tree and I could n’t see the Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree from which they fell .

The flavor was much like a canistel ( which is one of the trees I planted in The Great South Florida Food Forest Project – photo here ) and when I saw the seeds indoors , I knew it must be in the same house , though I had n’t yet insure the leaves .

ramble around to the bottom of the property , I spotted a smaller specimen with some unripe yield on it .

And here is a smattering of ripe fruit I picked up , held up next to the farewell :

I ’m 99 % certain this isPouteria multiflora , AKA “ jácana . ”

There is n’t much comestible on the fruits , really , just a skin of crumbly , yellow flesh with the grain of a well - cooked egg yolk and a sweet tone interchangeable to sweet white potato .

I saved the seminal fluid and will be set them , as you see here :

Pouteria multiflora“yields very good forest that can be used for grinder rollers , frames , furniture , and firm edifice . Acana wood is light colored , fine and direct grained , heavily , very heavy , warm , durable , and can be polished to gleam . The pores are small and arranged in radiate run-in . Pith ray narrow and indistinct . ” ( Infogalactic )

Even if it ’s not the greatest yield in the world , it ’s good and my children liked the fruit I land home for them to try .

If I get tired of the trees or they get too bad for the novel food forest I ’m planning to plant , it ’s nice to know they can be turned into article of furniture .

It ’s a relative of my second favorite tropic fruit , themamey sapote(which is tied withblack sapoteat # 2 , by the way , and sometimes one or the other of them jump in front of my # 1 top favorite , the mango , so do n’t take this evaluation system too seriously ) .

I ’ll rent you know how germinating the seeds goes .

Have a wonderful Lord ’s Day .
