For the last few weeks , my 6 artichoke plants ( 8 ? 10 ? More ? They ’ve multiplied so much that I ’ve recede count ) have been going off . Each industrial plant bears beautiful spiny bud of thePurple of Romagnavariety , an Italian heirloom that ’s said to be more tender than the typical light-green earth .

I love to grow artichokes(Cynara cardunculus var . scolymus)because they ’re ornamental and edible . I was n’t much of an artichoke feeder until I had my own flora — I just liked the way they looked .

They were exotic and easy to grow and I soon found the shank just as delicious as the hearts .

Toward the end of the season when I ca n’t possibly eat anymore artichokes , I like to leave a couple of bud on the works to bloom .
