1.‘Blush’ Leucadendron
Name:Leucadendron salignum‘Blush’
Zones:9–11
Size:3 to 5 foot tall and encompassing
shape : Full Dominicus ; well - drain grunge

I am a leucadendron fanatic , and ‘ Blush ’ is one of my all - time favorites . This works has keen ruby color in its foliation , striking wintertime blooms , and low water needs . Its leafage or flowers can be used for cut - peak agreement . Australian plants are notorious for struggling with gamey - phosphorus soil , so this plant does best with limited fertilizer in acid grime that has good drain . With its lustrous color and upright architectural configuration , ‘ Blush ’ makes a not bad collector’s item or highlight in a garden .
2.California Hedge Nettle
Name:Stachysbullata
Zones:7–10
Size:2 to 3 foot wide and 2 foot tall
condition : Partial to full shadiness ; moist , well - drainedsoil

I am testing out this California native at Descanso Gardens in our unexampled wildlife landscape . This gentle broadcaster is easily establish and thrives underneath shade trees . Do n’t let its common name fool you : California hedge nettle does not have any bite hairs like other nettles . This plant is great for medium- to moderately irrigate shade gardens , and its striking pink , salvia - same blossom attract hummingbirds , butterflies , and bees . It pairs well with heuchera ( Heucheraspp . and cvs . , Zones 4 - 8) and Douglas iris ( Iris douglasiana , Zones 5 - 9 ) . Fragrant , mint - odoriferous foliage means that this plant is almost 100 pct deer resistant .
3.Breeze™Dwarf Mat Rush
Name:Lomandra longifolia‘LM300’
Zones:8–11
Size:2 to 3 feet improbable and wide
condition : Full Lord’s Day to partial shade ; well - drainedsoil

This beauty is a hopeful immature , grasslike industrial plant that performs well in all sorts of conditions . I often end up using it in gay spots that have poor dirt quality as well as in shady region of the garden that get average to low water , ( especially since the selection of grasses for dry shade is rather circumscribed ) . Breeze ™ is a smallerLomandracultivar that stays put when you plant it and is low to no upkeep . This Australian flora is kind of salt spraying and reclaimed water , so it can be used in all sort of hard locations . It will also remain evergreen in Southern California .
4.Feathery Cassia
Name:Senna artemisioides
Zones:8–10
Conditions : Full sun ; dry territory
Feathery genus Cassia is a great find for anyone looking for a luxuriant flora in a low - water supply garden . It ’s a mediumsize bush that has silver foliation and bright yellow leaping flowers that bloom for 2 to 3 month . Unlike many drought - large-minded plants , this dish does not have a dormant full point , so it look sound yr - round . Its lacy leaf take care great as a textural direct contrast to large - leaved succulent . Pale unripened seed pods form after the bloom season , and you may expect no maintenance once it ’s established .
