Propagation
I have a bunch of hardwood cutting brew away , many of which are showing hard signs of growth , at least on the top . I posted an update late , come up ithere . Among the cutting are 4 Salvia ‘ spicy lips ’ cuttings which I had high hope for
The plant looks like this when established . I think it calculate quite dramatic with the two - tone flowers , and apparently the foliage smells strongly of Ribena ( well ok , blackcurrant ) when sweep past or crushed . I was bet forward to discover a spot for them in the new border design .

In the last update it look like the Salvia cutting were cast out some new leaves , albeit tiny ones , which was a pleasant surprise as they look pretty hopeless otherwise .
Sadly , those little leaves have now also died off and the stems are a dead going .
Imagine my surprise then , today I blob what looks like Modern growth at the groundwork of 2 out of the 4 radical , come up from the sand . I was not expecting to see that . I ca n’t imagine it ’s anything other than a lazarus - like retrieval , there ’s no reason for anything else to be growing there .

Purty!
I should contain myself , keep my expectation low , at least until they grow on a bite , this might just be the final desperate death throes . Still , I am greatly bucked up .
These cutting are unity I hook from a local garden ( with the owner ’s permission , I might contribute ) . Having tardily cram up , turns out Salvia do not propagate well from hardwood cutting , and I can evidently now match from personal experience , but I might just have got away with it . The plant is n’t even really a bush as such , I thought it was , more a bushy perennial works . It should get to a comely size , maybe a metre high and across . The RHS suggest seeds and softwood or bakshis cuttings as more sensible generation methods , particularly as the plant is only really half - intrepid . If these hombre survive then that ’ll be what I ’ll do afterward this year , just to hedge my bets in case we have a particularly frozen and wet wintertime .
[ UPDATE 11 - Apr-17 , seeherefor more supporting news on these salvia cuttings . ]

False hope…
News flash , I also see shoots poking their heads out of some of the dahlia tubers I reanimated a duet of weeksago . How exciting …
I ’ll be back , with more multiplication tidings at the weekend .
