That ’s a blank little backyard , is n’t it ? So lamentable ! There ’s a niggling mango tree Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree in the heart behind the blank square of the jive . There ’s also a coconut palm to the left of the shed on the bottom right , but overall … there ’s not much going on .

Now countenance ’s take a look at the most late overhead persona :

Hey – that ’s more like it !

In the top rightfulness of the image you could see a untested tamarind tree tree to the left field of the white vehicle in the driveway . On the correct side of the house is the nice big tropic Amygdalus communis tree .

And in the backyard ? A with child muckle of fleeceable life sentence ! I wish the resolution was a bit intimately , but you get the idea . There are a lot of fruit trees , shrubs , vines , flower and roots growing in that second photo – and we ’ve done this in probably about 6 - 8 weekends worth of piece of work , tops . With South Florida ’s good rainfall and tropic climate , plus its root - accessible water tabular array , once your food forest is set and water in well for the first few calendar month , it takes on a lush life of its own .

Papaya , grumichama , key linden , mulberry tree , mango , coconut , plantain , banana tree , chocolate pudding fruit , Anacardium occidentale , starfruit … it ’s beautiful and fertile . The starfruit alone yields at least 100lbs of yield a year !

This entire M is probably about .15 acres . It ’s little – but food forests can be scaled allot to what you have available . I contrive to plant a lilliputian patio - sized one when we get a new location , just so I can show off what you may do with a diminished space permaculture garden .

Here ’s the most recent tour picture I recorded on this small postage stamp stamp - sized property in the city :

As I ’ve written before , I wish to quiz thing out thoroughly before I write about them . The five years I spent on these two food timberland projection in Florida , single out by five hours private road in totally dissimilar mood with very different soils , provide me with the peeled data point I call for to writeCreate Your Own Florida Food Forest .

My new homestead , once I ace one down , will be the examination soil for a while young reach of plants … and , of course , I ’ll be divvy up that journey with you .
