pilus sheep are not your received sheep . When you hear sheep , you probably conceive of a big wooly thing that bet like a giant pillow and would melt in southerly atmospheric condition . But , tomentum sheep do n’t have fleece . In case it was n’t obvious from the name , they have hair . So they are staring for our climate and they are very well-disposed animals .
About a week ago , me and my mom and dad were at a homesteading upshot in Milton where my pop was talking . After his talk , he walk around and await at what other the great unwashed were selling … and someone was sell two tomentum sheep . We were already intimate with hair sheep , because they were the independent animal that was keep in Grenada where we used to live on . Dad expect over at mom and said , “ You want sheep ? ” “ Why not ? ” she answer . So we finish up driving back home with two pilus sheep in the back of our caravan . They were amazingly content eating hay for an time of day behind me , and my two twelvemonth old baby was very diverted .
We induce the sheep primarily for meat , but also for fertilizing and “ mowing ” the lawn . Our hairsbreadth sheep are some form of a commixture between Katahdin and Blackbelly sheep . They are A-one frisson animals . They do n’t care about what ’s going on around them … which should make butcher them very slow compared to Goat . The males can give about 50 Irish punt of meat , and the females will give around 30 pound .

In Grenada , we would see Blackbelly sheep everywhere . The Farmer attach them by the face of the route and on their farm land . The sheep survived without pee or any variety of grain . They just eat Mary Jane and some brush . After a couple years , the farmers would cull a few from their growing tidy sum and butcher them . patently , they are very low sustenance . I write about the pen we are prevent them inhere . Female hair sheep give birth twice a year . It is common for them to have two or three babies at once . The mothers are very good .
Of naturally , not all that glitters is gilded . These sheep are prone to parasites and worms . Currently our sheep are struggling with this , as they had antecedently been keep on cropped pasture .. We are treating them with ail and kelp meal , as well as giving them a commercial-grade wormer . We hope to finally not have to expend any commercial wormers .
For more information of hairsbreadth sheep and breed , determine out this situation .

If we can turn gage , weeds and clash into mutton , we ’ll have made a great trade !
