Zea mays everta is one of my children ’s favourite snack and was at the top of my listing of novel crops to try in 2019 . Before get any fresh addition to our garden programme , I soundly research each variety available and haunt over the optimal seed space and growing conditions need . There are many interesting variety of popcorn useable , some are immense tower plants with full sized ears , some are petite . The kernels of Zea mays everta can be white , black , yellow , red , or multicolored and big , small , or even mushroom shape . I was overwhelmed by the many options for grow Zea mays everta ! After ridiculous time of day of corn research I choose Strawberry Popcorn , and I ’m pretty happy with our experience with this crop . But not everything I interpret about this tiny little clavus was true so I felt the need to write my own review with pros and cons from my experience .

Growing Strawberry Popcorn

strawberry mark popcorn is petite in capitulum size , kernel size , and angry walk tallness . Each kernel planted produces a 4 - 5 foot multi - stalk corn plant . Their diminutive height spend a penny them an ideal harvest for small veggie gardens or decorative plantings .   Even though they are modest , these plants are very fat . Ours produced 3 - 4 ears per industrial plant with each pinna measuring 2 - 4 ” long .

I planted our Strawberry Zea mays everta in an eighteen substructure square of threefold rows . The seeds were quick to sprout and the flora mature speedily . They were shaggy than most corn with many plant producing multiple stalks . Their shortsighted bushy nature is probably why they have no problem with lodging ( falling over in high-pitched nothingness ) .

The stature of these little skunk also made them quite aesthetically pleasing . I imagine they would be a fine accent in mixed borders or fantastic included in huge Summer planters .

Decorating with Strawberry Popcorn

However adorable it is while farm , Strawberry Popcorn is even more beautiful after it has been harvested .   It dry out to a dark garnet vividness with pointed picayune kernels . I made a garland out of some of the ear with husks still attached , and advert a wreath made from it above our hearth . This petite eared corn makes such fabulous fall decor , it ’s ornamental value might be it ’s neat asset .

When we have movie night in our house , the air - popper normally gets used to make downlike popcorn . When I was researching Strawberry Popcorn I get a web log post that said it could be popped just like any other popcorn in an zephyr - Sir Karl Raimund Popper . They lie in ! The blogger that write this was ostensibly making an assumption ,   and had obviously never in reality popped these flyspeck centre . The light-colored weight corn just fumble justly out of the popper before it had a chance to pop . I tried several times and discovered one style that it would work ;   I had to nurse the line Sir Karl Raimund Popper tilted backward at a 45 degree slant until the centre got hot enough to bulge . I used an oven baseball glove to keep from burning my hand , but it was still most unpleasant . The termination of my abominable Strawberry Popcorn trial was that the good   way to safely pour down this corn is the old fashioned elbow room , in a large mickle with lid .

no matter of how you make do to pop it , the flavour is great . It is popcorn that actually has flavor , more or less nutty and rich . But , alas , we were not blown by by the texture of these tiny lilliputian pull . They were a mo tougher than idealistic . Not bad , just not the perfect airy snack we had hoped for . So , we decided to try this corn out in other ways .

strawberry mark Zea mays everta is a actually a very versatile grain . Like other flint maize , it   can be found into flour , Indian meal or polenta . We had our grinder out for realize grits from our Tennessee Red Cob corn , so we decided to grind part of our popcorn . It took double as retentive to grind than the softer dent corn , but the lead polenta and cornmeal was beautiful ! I was astonied that this hard popcorn polenta took almost an hour to cook . However , the wait was worth the deliciousness as it was rich and full of corn flavor . Thecornbreadmade from our pappa - cornmeal was also incredible , possibly the skilful I ’ve ever made .   I would not develop this crop for habit as Zea mays everta again , but I just might consider grow it for Indian meal and polenta .

Overall I was pleased with this harvest . It was super easy , productive , fun for the kid , pretty , and quite delicious ( in an unexpected phase ) . I definitely think it would be gross for gardeners with very modified outer space that require to grow corn . I ’m not certain yet if we will get it again . I guess I will decide after we habituate up all of the beautiful garnet speckled polenta and cornmeal this wintertime .
